TrainAR captures the know-how of your most experienced engineers and replays it as live, AI-assisted training for the engineers still learning - on a phone, or hands-free on AR glasses in the field.

It exists to close the trade skills gap - the shortage of experienced engineers in trades like gas, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and heavy equipment service. Rather than training new engineers in classrooms or on residential customer-facing jobs they're not ready for, TrainAR lets them work alongside an AI that has the senior engineer's procedures, the manufacturer's manuals, and your account's knowledge base loaded - coaching them in real time, eyes on the job, hands free.

How TrainAR works in 90 seconds

  1. A senior engineer records a procedure - boiler service, fault diagnosis, customer-facing escalation. They narrate as they work while the app captures their point of view and audio through connected glasses.
  2. TrainAR processes the session into a structured procedure - steps, safety annotations, prerequisites, expected outcomes.
  3. Junior engineers later run the same kind of job in trainee mode - on the phone alone or with glasses. The AI assistant has the procedure loaded, can answer questions, can look at what they're looking at (on request), and can fetch information from your knowledge base, manufacturer catalogues, and any connected integrations.
  4. Sessions are recorded, summarised, and (if integrated) written back to your field-service system - closing the loop without anyone copy-pasting anything.

The result: a junior engineer doing real work, supervised by your senior engineer's captured know-how, with safety guardrails baked in.

What you need to start

  • A TrainAR account - created when you sign up. New accounts come ready to go: a seat is already set up and assigned to you, the Agent Toolbox is switched on, UK accounts get The Complete UK knowledge base, and you have 200 free minutes of session time.
  • A phone with the TrainAR app - trainee sessions run on the phone, with or without AR glasses, so you can get started straight away. See Install and pair.
  • (Optional) AR or AI glasses - for hands-free sessions and for recording trainer procedures. See Connecting your glasses.
  • (Optional, recommended) Your field-service system connected - ServiceM8, Jobber, Commusoft, Simpro, BigChange, Payaca, Powered Now, and more. Jobs flow in as tasks, completed sessions flow results back. See Integrations.
  • (Optional) Subscriptions to relevant Marketplace bundles - e.g. the Parts & Spares bundle for UK heating engineers. See Marketplace.

The two roles your engineers play

Every engineer using TrainAR works in one of two modes - and most senior engineers move between them.

Trainer mode - the engineer is recording how they do a job. The AI listens but doesn't intervene. After the session, the platform extracts a structured procedure your team can re-use. Trainer sessions need connected glasses for the hands-free point-of-view camera.

Trainee mode - the engineer is doing a job, with the AI actively coaching, looking at what they're looking at on request, and fetching information on demand. Runs on the phone alone or with glasses. See Running a session.

Where to next

If you're brand new to TrainAR, work through these in order:

  1. Your account - understand the unit of organisation.
  2. Your first session - walkthrough from pairing your phone to reviewing the recording.
  3. Glossary - quick reference for every term that appears across these docs.
