A 15-minute walkthrough from "I just signed up" to "I've run my first training session and seen the result in the dashboard." Follow this once end-to-end and you'll have the full mental model.

Note

New accounts start with 200 free minutes of session time, so your first sessions cost nothing. See Minutes for how the pool works.

What you need

  • Your TrainAR account created (you've signed up and logged into the Dashboard).
  • A phone (iOS or Android). AR glasses are optional for your first session - trainee sessions run on the phone alone.
  • Something straightforward you can work through and narrate (a boiler service, a tap replacement, anything that takes 10-20 minutes).

Step 1: Your seat is already there

Sessions run against seats. When you signed up, TrainAR created a seat and assigned it to you automatically, with both trainer and trainee roles, so there is nothing to set up. You can see it under Dashboard → Devices.

(When you add more engineers later: invite them from Settings → Users, then give them a seat. See Inviting your team.)

Step 2: Download the app and pair your phone

  1. Download TrainAR from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. In the Dashboard, open Devices and start pairing on your seat. A QR code appears.
  3. Open the app and scan the QR code (or open the pairing link on the phone). The phone binds to your seat - there is no username or password inside the app.

The device appears against your seat in the Devices page the moment pairing lands. A seat can hold up to 3 devices (say, a phone and a pair of glasses-hub phones), and you can unpair from either side at any time.

See Install and pair for the full flow.

Step 3: (Optional) Create a task for the job

You don't strictly need a task - you can run a freestanding session. But a task gives the AI context. For your first test, create one manually:

  1. Dashboard → Tasks → Create Task (admin).
  2. Title: short description ("Combi boiler annual service").
  3. Description: any context - equipment model, customer notes, what's expected.
  4. Assignee: you.

The task appears in the app shortly after.

Step 4: Run a trainee session on the phone

For your very first session, run trainee mode on the phone - no glasses needed:

  1. Open the app. Tap Start a session and choose Trainee (open your task first if you made one).
  2. The live view is your camera's view of the work, with the AI assistant watching and listening.
  3. Work through the job. Ask the AI anything, ask for a manual page or an exploded parts diagram, and it will pull from your account's knowledge and skills.
  4. Tap End session when you're done.

The recording uploads in the background as soon as the phone has WiFi.

Step 5: Record a trainer session (needs glasses)

Trainer sessions capture an expert's procedure, and they need a hands-free point-of-view camera - that means connected glasses. If you have TrainAR-compatible Bluetooth glasses:

  1. In the app, connect your glasses (Home → Connect glasses).
  2. Tap Start a session and choose Trainer.
  3. Work the job, narrating as you go ("now I'm taking the front cover off, checking the pressure gauge..."). Talk naturally - one good run is all the platform needs.
  4. End the session when the work's done. The platform extracts a structured, re-usable procedure afterwards.

No glasses yet? Skip this step - everything else works without it, and you can order glasses from the dashboard.

Step 6: View the session

Processing takes a few minutes for a typical session.

  1. Dashboard → Sessions - find the session you just ran.
  2. Click in to see the detail page: the recording, the AI-generated summary, any photos snapped during the session, and each extracted procedure.

See Viewing a session and Procedure extraction for what each card shows.

What you've just done

In 15 minutes you've:

  • Paired your phone to your ready-made seat.
  • Run a trainee session with live AI guidance.
  • (Optionally) recorded a trainer session that became a structured procedure.
  • Reviewed it all in the dashboard.

This is the full TrainAR loop in miniature. Everything else in the docs builds on this shape.
